RAINBOW : CRIME 1-After the rain

We decided that we'll blog this series episode by episode. But the process will not be fast, since both of us have many assignments going on. FroZen , hence a collaboration between Frostii and Saizen, has undertaken the job of subtitling the series and in a good quality, so we follow them.

Let's begin with the OP. Neko isn't very excited about it but Foxy lady is very fond of it; she believes that it's a very appropriate, strong intro with fitting lyrics and as a whole it's a very good opening, letting us pick into the concept and story of the series. It is really something completely different to just watch a series than to watch and screencap and write about it. You notice more details and contemplate more, while following the second route. For example, Foxy lady noticed the 'criminal' record of the protagonists in the OP in images that are flashed in front of us very quickly, and had you noticed the bird on the fence- an obvious symbol of freedom? The 7 of them stare at it as it flies high into the sky towards the sun with a glim of hope into their eyes.

A meeting at a promised place?

A play between black and colours- misery and hope, liberation and joy.

Just...much blood...but I guess, the one who got beaten wasn't a saint, so...

Red- The boy who turned into man still has flames in his eyes. I'm curious about this glove...

What's going on here? Not very sure, but this thing on the left must be a leg...If I had to guess, I'd say he googles terrorized at a 'dirty' adult act. I mean, what else can happen in a stable, between hays?
Orange- The studious (?) fellow of the 7. Always serious but not uncapable to smile.
Standing alone in a ruined place is such a tragic image.
Yellow- This little fellow has a mischievious spark in his eyes from the beginning till the end ,it seems.
Contditions made him do things he didn't want to. His distraught expression shown no ill intentions.
Green- Some seconds after this screenshot , Cauliflower flashes the brightest smile ever. He's got not only a big body, but a big heart as well.
He's protecting something with all his might here. Jo had had perhaps the worst experiences from the rest of the company. Yet his heart remained gentle towards weak people.
Blue- Jo has grown beautifully into a man, if we judge from his serene face. Yet he's the only one who doesn't turn to look at the spectator. He appears drown in his thoughts.
Is this woman his mother? It doesn't seem to me like he's protecting her, like stated in the manga...The anime states that he assaulted his mother's boyfriend, but without giving the reason why.
Indigo- Rough features and a gaze that can kill. There's no hint of smile on his face. It seems that there's still some anger left in his heart. I'm curious about his detailed whereabouts. Someone might say that he is a rather composed person judging from appearance.
I wonder what Sakuragi's past hides...He's the only one for whom we aren't given any information about why he ended behind bars.
Violet- A gaze that shows that he has confidence and determinance. His features indicate maturity and kindness.
The wired fence seems like hiding, swallowing the sky.
The bird sits for awhile on the fence of the prison. Its stay is temporary. And so is theirs.
The excitement on their faces shows the strength in their hearts.
In they end they'll fly free like that, too. The boys were always free spirits, people with pride, that fought for their life against life itself. Till the day the rain stops and the sun shines. Everyone has a place in this world.
Sunlight was the only thing that felt right, before I came here.
But inside, it feels like it keeps raining.
And every drop is like the tears we can drop.
Cause inside we were all alone, but this place gave us something.
{screaming part} And somehow we are strong.
There’s a place inside this wall where rules and dreams are not yet lost.
We’ll stand and climb against these walls.
We fight this fight forever more.
There’s a place inside this wall where we must go back to once more.
Until the day, we find out fast, we’re not alone.

The episode begins with a very strong scene. The 6 boys are transported by bus to the prison and while on bus there's a little girl with a doll. But the road wasn't smooth so the bus shook and the doll fell to the floor. Jo picks it up only to give it to the young girl, yet the girl doesn't accept the doll, starts crying and in the end she tosses the doll in the middle of the muddy street with anger and disgust on her face.

Such kind eyes! How can anyone not see kindness in them? Why everyone shouted he wanted to stole the doll? So irrational...so heartless...
Mean child raised by a mean society.
surprise and sorrow

Who talks...
Then after the bastard guard we have the bastard doctor...This man gives me such creeps...

If you have doubts about the character of the doctor and questions about what exactly he does, check the manga here

F: The doctor makes me wanna vomit, the guard to run...I want hug...

N:Aren't you a bit oversensitive? I'm not sure about the doctor- is he twisted or caring?

F: He? He's a pervert...probably a disguised sadist in the sexual appartment...no emotions really...just a clown smile. He freaks me out. -And you don't like it that I'm sensitive, huh? :P

N: hehehe

Now, there's no room for doubts about what a person he is. Apart from that scene with Jo and the doctor that has been omitted, there's another one about the mockery of the other prisoners here

Then, after this humiliation the boys are lead to their cell, where they meet the person who'll treat them like brothers. Their first meeting isn't so friendly though... In this way, an introduction falls in place, containing the reasons they were sent into the 'hell's cauldron'.

The fuss causes the guard to check the situation in the cell and this couldn't end up peacefully.

The evil clown's grin...creepy...

The episode ends with a very heart-warming scene: the sharing of a cigarette.

The ED isn't something exceptional.

N: Nice animation in some certain moments.

F: Yes, I like it general. it's madhouse after all.

N: I am guessing that we'll see lots of cliche, but on the other hand I rarely see stuff like this one.

F: What moments you mean?  What kind of cliches?

N: Hm, well, the characters seem to be all set for a certain cause. The sick doc with no humanity, the dark violent guard, the wise old prisoner, the sensitive blue eyes secretly homo boy  so on...

F: ...homo? why do you think he is?  I've taken a liking on him. he's got a sweet heart.

N: Well, that's what I mean.  During the episode, they mentioned it, it was one of the reasons they got him
and since he had a homo past, he had to be all sweet looking ...

F: Oh that was intergender relationships?  Well, you can't be sure it was sth he wanted or was a rape. Cause he was accused for beating his violator.

N: Hm, you're right about that.

F: Did you like someone more?

N: The blue eyed guy and the kid that got the first punch.

F: Mmm hai. I like the bro as well, I think he might have caused the whole fuss because he knew the guard would come to beat someone so instead he made himself a target.

N: You think so?

F: Yes..it might be possible. the guard seems the type to do it. and you know, first day someone should be the example of how things work in there.

N: You seem to know well how prisons work...

F: No...are you implying sth? no way I could have such a past!

N: Hm, you never know...

F: I just put my mind to think...

N: Is that a comment about MY mind?

F: You making up thinks, hon...

N: moooooooooooooooooooo

F: hihihi.  The man who got them into the cell told them to ask about the rules. That's where I assumed this from.  Actually all of them are very likable.

Next episode, seems to be Jo's past.
